Bank Reconciliation Template

Account for the gap between your bank balance and your ledger, in one worksheet.

Build the Reconciliation Statement

Start with the example, then enter your own closing balances in Australian dollars.

Same account and closing date. Positive amounts increase; negatives reduce.

Your amounts and imported rows stay in this browser tab. Reloading clears your changes. Download your work before leaving.

Match Transfers and Find Duplicate Entries

Import rows to compare bank entries, ledger entries and transfers between accounts.

Transaction rows and opening balances

YYYY-MM-DD; signed amounts, up to 2 decimals; bank/ledger side; 500 rows.

Balance just before start. One currency per account; never combine currencies.

Sample ledger imports preserve your closing balances and adjustments.

Sample: rows 3 and 4 are a possible $250.00 transfer. Rows 5 and 6 are possible duplicates.

Use the Reconciliation Template

Opens in Excel or another spreadsheet app. Check the sample transactions below before exporting.

Download the bank reconciliation statement template as a CSV after updating the worksheet. The export includes both closing balances, every signed adjustment and its reason, source references, match decisions, running balances and the original imported fields.

Open the CSV in Excel to keep a working record. Search filters and category previews appear in separate columns; they do not overwrite source rows. This is your reconciliation worksheet, not a statement issued by a bank.

Check the Result Against Source Records

For each adjustment, open the cited statement page, receipt or ledger entry. Compare the account, date, amount and sign, then check whether the item already appears on the other side. Keep a reason for any item you cannot resolve.

A zero difference confirms only that the entered figures balance. It does not establish that a statement is genuine, that every period is present or that a transaction is legitimate. Use the bank statement reconciliation guide for checks beyond this worksheet.

A transfer suggestion pairs opposite amounts in different accounts, in the same currency, within your date and amount tolerances. Inspect the references before accepting it. Accepted pairs stay in cash balances but leave the income and expenditure totals. Rejecting a suggestion keeps both entries in those totals.

If an accepted pair has unequal amounts, the unmatched remainder stays in income or expenditure. Duplicates share an account, side, date, signed amount and description. A flag does not delete a row. Bank-to-ledger matches are candidates only; ambiguous alternatives remain visible.

Review Weekly Balances and Transaction Rules

Choose any period, or make the end date six days after the start for a seven-day week.

Both dates included. Update openings for new starts. Bank rows do not affect ledger balances.

Search, category filters and rule preview

First description match wins, ignoring case. Preview leaves source rows unchanged.

Leave blank to turn off the amount rule.

Include amounts this far either side of a multiple.

Sample closing balances: Operating $1,050.00; Reserve $750.00. Combined AUD balance: $1,800.00.

Filters only hide rows. Balances use all period ledger rows; income/costs exclude accepted transfers.

Use the amount rule to select amounts near a chosen multiple, combined with your search and category filters. It checks the absolute amount, so receipts and payments follow the same rule. Zero also matches.

For a multiple of 100 and tolerance of 0.01, amounts of $100, −$200, $299.99 and $300.01 match. An amount of $300.02 falls outside the selection. The original amounts stay unchanged.

Multiple and tolerance use each row’s currency units without currency conversion. Filters change the preview and selected-row download. Running balances, expenditure totals and transfer suggestions still use all period rows.

The selected-row CSV records the chosen rule, original imported fields and source CSV row numbers. The full statement CSV keeps every imported row. Rounded amounts are a sampling criterion only. Payroll, rent or scheduled transfers can produce ordinary round-number amounts.
