Will Writing Template for Solicitors
Turn entered will instructions into an editable draft with missing particulars and execution review prompts.
Prepare a will draft
Enter the Instructions and Jurisdiction
This will writing template fills a fixed drafting scaffold from a solicitor’s instructions. Select the jurisdiction, identify the testator and enter executor appointments. Add specific gifts and the residue beneficiary, then decide each substitute appointment.
Blank particulars remain visibly incomplete. Choosing None instructed records that decision. The form does not assume the testator’s wishes when a substitute or residue instruction is missing.
Before relying on the scaffold, the solicitor establishes capacity, knowledge and approval and takes independent instructions. Verify which assets pass under the will against the asset inventory. An account balance or property description alone does not establish ownership.
The will preparation guide covers the wider instruction and execution workflow. This free browser tool assembles the entered particulars without uploading client details or using a hosted model.
Populate and Edit the Will Draft
Load example inserts fictional instructions for Taylor Example. It appoints Morgan Example with Jamie Example as substitute. The blue ceramic vase goes to Casey Example, with Drew Example as substitute. Residue goes to Riley Example with Jordan Example as substitute.
Each gift row uses asset | beneficiary | substitute. Enter a hyphen in the final column when the client instructs no substitute. Leaving it blank records an incomplete instruction. Repeated assets and identical primary and substitute names appear as conflicts.
The scaffold supports one primary executor and one primary residue beneficiary, each with an optional substitute. Multiple residue shares, trusts, gifts to minors and complex asset arrangements require individual drafting. Resolve inconsistent instructions before settling clauses.
Edit the preview directly after checking the assembled clauses. Copy, print and downloads use those edits. Changing an input replaces the edited preview, so download a version before returning to the instructions. Reloading clears the entries; files you save remain on your device.
Review the Victorian and Other Execution Prompts
Victoria selects an in-person execution prompt under the Wills Act 1997. Plan for the testator and two witnesses together. State Trustees’ witnessing guidance recommends adults who are not beneficiaries.
New South Wales uses an in-person prompt under section 6 of the Succession Act 2006. Legal Aid NSW’s will guidance explains the written will, signature and two witnesses. Select independent adult witnesses and settle the attestation wording for the actual signing.
Other jurisdiction leaves signing requirements unresolved. The selector does not supply remote witnessing procedures or determine the governing law. Settle those requirements separately where relevant.
The output keeps a review checklist and an incomplete execution block. Review survivorship and failed-gift consequences, statutory substitution, family provision and the treatment of liabilities. A populated draft and its checklist do not establish that an instrument has been validly executed.
