Metadata Remover for PDFs, Word Files and Photos

Remove selected metadata on your device and download a separate sharing copy.

Prepare a sharing copy

PDF, DOCX, JPEG or PNG. Up to 25 MiB.

Your file never leaves your device. The original stays unchanged.

Remove Metadata From Your File

This metadata remover creates a separate copy of a local PDF, Word DOCX file, JPEG or PNG photo. File processing stays on your device.

Choose a file, select the information to remove, then create the sharing copy. The result lists the metadata containers or fields removed and the information outside this removal. Download the copy and the removal record separately.

Clear the removal option to keep document properties or photo metadata. For Word files, you can separately keep comments and tracked changes. Accepting changes keeps inserted text and removes deleted text in the copy.

For iPhone photos, use a JPEG or PNG copy. Export HEIC as JPEG before selecting it here. Removing EXIF clears camera details, recorded dates and GPS location together. It also clears orientation, so a portrait JPEG may display sideways.

PDFs are limited to 500 pages. Legacy DOC, HEIC, encrypted files and signed PDF or Word documents are unsupported. Accept table or paragraph-boundary revisions in Word before using this tool. Review the downloaded file’s appearance and content before sharing.

What Metadata Files Carry

PDF metadata can contain an author, creator application, producer, title, subject and creation or modification dates. This tool removes the document information dictionary and XMP metadata when removal is selected.

Word DOCX files can carry author and company properties, comments and tracked changes. Property removal clears the document-properties parts. Comment and revision removal accepts text insertions and deletions, removes comment parts and clears revision author and date attributes.

JPEG and PNG photos can carry camera information, timestamps and GPS coordinates in EXIF. Text fields can also store editing software, prompts or AI generation tags. Photo removal strips the supported EXIF, text and provenance containers while preserving the encoded picture data.

Removing AI metadata from a photo removes those stored tags. It does not change what the picture depicts or prove that a person created it. Watermarks encoded within picture pixels remain, and AI-generated content can exist without metadata.

Colour profiles remain. PDF annotations, attachments and embedded-image metadata remain. Word hidden text, headers, embedded files, image metadata and custom XML remain. The removal record names these limits so you can inspect them separately.

Keep the Original

Keep the received original with its filename and source record. Its metadata can help explain how a document was created or edited. Removing that information changes the evidence available in the sharing copy.

Prepare a separate disclosure copy only when the matter’s requirements permit removal. If metadata is relevant to a dispute, preserve it and resolve what must be provided before changing the copy.

Use the metadata viewer to inspect the result. The document metadata evidence guide explains how metadata can support an investigation. Metadata removal leaves visible text and pictures in place.
