Split PDF Tool

Split a local PDF into working files with a source-page map.

Separate your working copies

One PDF, up to 50 MiB and 500 pages.

Output mode

Use physical page numbers. Split makes one file per comma-separated group.

Use {n}, {start} and {end} for file number and source range.

ZIP download

File processing stays in this browser tab.

Choose a local PDF or load the fictional eight-page example.

One file per selected range. Your original PDF stays unchanged.

Choose Ranges or Extract Pages

This split PDF tool creates separate working files from a local PDF. Enter physical page numbers, counted from the first page of the file. PDF navigation labels and numbers printed on a statement can differ from those positions.

In Split mode, 1-2,5,7-8 creates three files with two, one and two pages. Extract mode puts those five pages into one file in the entered order. Reversed ranges, repeated pages and overlapping selections are refused.

Extraction copies the selected pages. It leaves every page in the original file. To keep a shortened working copy, select the pages you want to retain and save the exported PDF separately.

Download Separate Working Files

Choose your PDF, enter its ranges and review the proposed output groups. Select Create working files to prepare a PDF download and preview for each group. The CSV manifest maps each output page to its source file and physical page.

The fictional example has eight pages from two accounts, with a cover sheet and divider pages. Select 1-2,5,7-8 in Split mode to create three files containing five pages. Source pages 3, 4 and 6 are omitted. The example’s PDF labels differ from its physical page positions.

Splitting, extraction and downloads are free and require no account. The tool accepts one PDF up to 50 MiB with at most 500 pages. Each run creates at most 50 files and 100 MiB of PDF output. The optional ZIP contains those PDFs and the manifest.

Choose this workflow when entered ranges and a source-page map suit your bundle. A device can run out of memory within the limits. Use smaller source copies if processing fails. Find the other PDF tools for tasks such as combining files.

Verify Page Count and Provenance

Compare the source page count with the selected-page total and each output group. The omitted-page list shows gaps in your extraction. Duplicate selections stop the export, so an unintended overlap cannot silently repeat a page.

Reopen a sample exported page. Match its content with the original physical page and compare the PDF label in the manifest. Check the number printed on the page separately. The tool reads PDF navigation labels, so it does not identify printed numbers by text recognition.

Keep the source file with the exported copies and CSV manifest. The manifest records the extraction, without authenticating the source file. Exported working copies fix form fields to their visible appearance. A digital signature on the original does not authenticate a copy.

Encrypted or damaged PDFs are refused. Save an authorised unlocked copy in your existing PDF application before selecting it. Bookmarks and document-level attachments are not carried across. Check annotations, links and form appearances before adding an export to an evidence file.
